PRESS RELEASE

Sleek, lightweight HDD provides up to 1TB portable backup solution with added cloud storage and data security

19 June, 2013, Neuss - Toshiba Europe GmbH (TEG), Storage Peripheral Division, has today announced the enhanced version of the STOR.E Slim[1] portable external hard drive (HDD) with a larger capacity and additional cloud storage[2], which will give users secure access to their valuable digital content whilst on the move. Building on the award winning stylish design of the original STOR.E Slim, Toshiba has developed the HDD which not only looks the part, but also offers a large storage capacity of up to 1TB[3] with an additional 10GB of free cloud storage, making it a vital addition to any consumer's gadget collection.

As more and more aspects of our personal and professional lives become reliant upon digital technology, it is important we are confident that our valuable files are secure and accessible at all times. Research[4] shows that only 25 per cent of users frequently backup their files, yet 85 per cent of those same respondents say they are very concerned about losing important digital data.

Toshiba has developed the STOR.E Slim so backing up is no longer an issue. The HDD offers the most comprehensive protection for your data using NTI® Backup Now EZTM2, which scans your system and recommends the best backup coverage for you. Users can choose between backing up to the STOR.E Slim or backing up everything saved on the computer, or both options for the most inclusive protection. A backup can even be scheduled to run automatically at any time and day so that users can have total peace of mind knowing their data is always protected.

Toshiba have also provided users of the new STOR.E Slim with the option of 500GB or 1TB of storage capacity, which considering its tiny size, packs a punch. The 1TB STOR.E Slim is capable of storing up to a massive 571,000 digital photos*, 526,000 digital music files** or 1,640 downloaded digital movies***[5][6] perfect for even the largest of digital libraries. And, with both 3.0 and 2.0 USB compatibility the HDD provides rapid transfer speeds[7].

In addition to the large storage capacity of up to 1TB, the STOR.E Slim also comes with 10GB of free cloud storage using Pogoplug® PC, a cloud storage platform. Toshiba has recently partnered with Pogoplug® PC to provide owners of the new STOR.E Slim with a free subscription to the cloud platform and 10GB of cloud storage. This means that with remote access software from Pogoplug® PC users can access all their digital files stored on the STOR.E Slim from devices anywhere providing the HDD is connected to a computer in an internet environment.

The STOR.E Slim also features remote access, so if you are on the move and need to access your files it can be done so online from any device, making lost or forgotten files a thing of the past. And, because data today is such a personal and valuable part of our lives, the HDD comes with a password lock to prevent data theft. All this is wrapped up in the iconic silver brushed aluminium casing which replicates the award winning STOR.E Slim design, voted winner of the prestigious Red Dot Design Awards in 2013. The STOR.E Slim provides every data storage essential in a HDD no bigger than an iPhone 5.

Arnaud Bonvarlet, Director EMEA, Storage Peripheral Division, Toshiba Europe GmbH, comments, 'With people increasingly relying on technology to store important professional and personal information, the knowledge that our digital devices are as secure as possible is more important than ever. In the same way we ensure our credit cards and smartphones are password protected, people need a storage solution that offers the same level of security against theft and corruption of our digital content. The STOR.E Slim combines a sleek design with quick, easy access to cloud storage and a password lock feature to enable users to have maximum access to their files with minimum risk of data loss'

The 500GB and 1TB STOR.E Slim Portable HDD will be available for purchase from 19th June 2013 and its suggested retail price is 69€ and 99€, respectively.

I have a Toshiba HDTD210XS3e1 Canvio Slim II Portable Hard Drive 1tb. It shows on my computer under USB drives and says it is working ok. But when I plug it into the computer the PASSWORD screen log in box does not come up so I can sign and open my files. It also does not show under my file explorer where it was listed as f drive. I have an Acer Aspire Computer with a Celeron CPU, 2 GHz, 4 GB ram, 64 bit, with windows 10 home. I have tried Toshiba site for drivers it only shows me one for a Mac OSX.

I have talked to Toshiba for about an hour they said it was because of your last update and they are right it stopped working about two hours after the update and even after taking that update off it still does not work. They 'Toshiba' said it was because you at Microsoft did not send them the info they needed to build a workaround for the new windows 10 updater so they could build a patch. Note the Toshiba HDTD210XS3e1 Canvio Slim II Portable Hard Drive has worked on this computer for 3 years with no prob. And for over a year with windows 10, I have done nothing or added anything to the Computer. Just do updates.

IT WAS THE WINDOWS 10 UPDATE AND TOSHIBA MADE A NEW PASSWORD PATCH FOR IT! THANK YOU TOSHIBA!!!!!!!! (Moved from: Mobile Devices / Accessories / Other). Hi David, You may be experiencing the problem regarding your portable hard drive due to a compatibility issue. To resolve that, we suggest that you completely uninstall the drivers for the device and restart your computer.

1tb Toshiba External Hard Drive

Windows will attempt to reinstall the driver after doing that. To uninstall the drivers, refer to the following steps:. Open Device Manager. Right-click on the driver that needs to be uninstalled, then choose Properties. Go to the Driver tab, then select Uninstall.

If the issue persists, we recommend that you roll the driver back to its previous version. To do that, you can follow the steps below:. Open Device Manager. Right-click on the driver that needs to be rolled back, then choose Properties.

Go to the Driver tab, then select Roll Back Driver. Update us if the information above addressed your concern. That would be great if windows listed Uninstall Drivers but it does not.

It also won't let me roll back the driver. Just lets me look for updates or Uninstall Device or Disable it. Nothing more! I called Toshiba and spoke with them for half an hour they let me know the Problems are 100% with windows 10 updates. And that's when all this started just hours after the last updats it would no longer work.

EVEN AFTER TAKING THE UPDATES OFF. I have used this little hard drive for 3 years 2 with XP and a year with Windows 10. PLEASE GET A FIX FOR THIS THANKS! Hi Ian, The compatibility of a device being used by a user should be taken into consideration as this could cause an issue which may result in the external device not being recognized. We should also take note that the drivers should not only be updated but they should be fully compatible with the latest version of Windows 10 as well. These drivers are available at the manufacturer's end as the drivers are being produced together with the device. Windows 10 can provide generic drivers for some devices but those are not guaranteed to work on all devices.
